How to Meditate for a Tarot Reading

Meditation brings a lot of benefits to any spiritual practice. It heightens awareness, psychic ability, and enables the mind to be free from clutter. With that being said, there’s no question on why meditation improves your ability to focus on the message that the cards are trying to tell you.

Misconceptions on Tarot Reading

Some people believe that Tarot cards read themselves rather than the other way around. However, this isn’t the case. Tarot cards cannot completely determine the message without being read.

In other words, tarot cards are simply pieces of guidance for your intuitive memory. They serve as arrowheads and way finders but they do not hold everything there is to know about a particular situation.

Why meditate?

Meditating before and after a card reading is equally important to ward off excess energy that may block your ability to read the message being said and other similar energies that have pent up during the duration of the reading. Reading for someone else can also be a heavy spiritual task, which makes meditation even more necessary.

Another reason why meditation is an essential part of tarot reading is that it heightens your awareness and strengthen your intuition. Meditation helps you truly connect with the message and allow the message to be brought to the light.

Ways to Meditate for a Reading

Before

When you’re reading for yourself, there are limitless ways to meditate. You may meditate with incense or crystals beforehand, sit in silence and focus on your desired question for as long as you please, or cleanse your aura using the light visualization technique. When you are at your best spiritual self during a reading, you are more likely to connect more links relevant to the main message.

Alternatively, if you do not have the time or if you only opt for a quick reading, you may center yourself by simply focusing on your question while shuffling your cards. This can take up to a minute.

During

When you have picked your cards, it’s time for the main event. Flip your cards and try to make a brief pause while looking at every card and mentally writing down how you feel about the card without saying the words just yet.

For instance, rather than spooking yourself out when you’ve picked the death card because of the common negative associations related to death, really ask yourself how you feel about the card.

This is a form of meditation that combines reflection. This practice boosts your intuitive skills and reduces internal noise which is both important in extracting the message of the reading.

After

Cleansing your aura after a reading is necessary to ward off energy blockages and negative feelings that might have built up during the reading.

Even if you don’t feel it right away, being influenced by a reading is inevitable! This is also applicable to positive readings to restrict it from becoming influenced by the ego.

A Final Note: Quit the Tarot Guidebook and Meditate!

Although it might be tempting to reach for the guidebook during a reading, it makes a reading less genuine and influenced by something else rather than your intuition.

There’s nothing wrong with studying the guidebook or memorizing their meanings but you should always take into consideration what you really feel about the card rather than fully depending on a guide made by someone who probably doesn’t know you at all.

Remember, the card expresses itself through your intuition.
