What is Bad and Good Witchcraft?
Updated: February 12, 2023
Witchcraft is defined differently by everyone, depending on their origin and where they learn it from. It may be a mixture of different belief systems, diverse practices, or personal perspectives.
In that context, there is surely no form of witchcraft that is right nor wrong. However, there are rather ineffective and truly and positively influential practices that can greatly impact your spiritual journey.
With that in mind, it is significant to identify good and bad practices in the field of witchcraft.
Bad and Good Witchcraft Practices
Bad: Mixed up Intentions
We can sometimes be clouded by overwhelming desires that stem from feelings of lack and discontent. Feelings of disappointment, anger, envy, lust, and other feelings operating at a low frequency can also cause a sudden surge of impulsivity.
While doing a spell may seem like the easiest and beneficial action to take, it may instead cause a contradictory effect on each other. This can possibly disrupt your previous affirmations, especially those wishes that are intentionally put out for long-term goals.
Good: Acknowledging Your True Desire
Acknowledging your true desire is the first step you have to take when diving into spells and manifestation rituals. It is important to keep your intentions in line with your path.
But what if you do not have a path? What does a path consist of? A ‘path’ can be quite vague for others – especially those who haven’t started on their journey yet. A path is a roadmap supported by wisdom, strong will, and determination to get to your goal destination.
Your goal destination can be defined as your long-term goal. Before you get into spellwork, ask yourself whether your desire aligns with your wisdom or path.
Bad: Ingenuity of the Spell
So you have a desire. You have a copy of a “fool-proof” spell that has been used and proved by thousands of witches all over the world. Nothing can stop you now, is there?
The real question is, are you genuine about your desire?
The least you want to do is treat spells and grimoires merely as a recipe book to “cook” your desires into reality. That’s just not how it works.
Good: Understanding the Spell
Being genuine with what you want and, at the same time, understanding the spell thoroughly can get you places than if you just followed the instructions.
When you understand the spell, you will identify where to reflect and recognize what you want to add or take out completely. A personal touch can greatly increase the potency of any spell. Trust on that.
Bad: Being Dependent on Magick
Magick cannot work without your effort. It is simply there to support your ground, to protect you, and push you further from where you are currently situated. It is not your emotional crutch or your wheelchair. Unless it is something you cannot control, making no effort on your part will never get you anywhere. It is up to you to widen and strengthen your chances.
Good: Asking for Support from Your Guides
This is also especially true if you put out a desire to manifest without changing your mindset. It is like talking to the wall or expecting a fish to fly.
What you want to do is release your desire by translating it into verbal or written words, actions, or symbols, let it go, and put your own take on it by making your move.
A simple example is acknowledging your desire, drawing a sigil or a symbol that represents that desire, and burning it. Even forgetting you made that wish, if possible. Your guides have heard it and the universe has transpired the message. Trust that the support is there and do all that you can to make your desire happen.
Bad: Stripping the Will of Others to Choose
Wishing bad will for others or stripping others’ will to choose can backfire in ways you can’t imagine. In fact, there is a big chance that the wishes you have set out for others can come back to you in multiple degrees.
In other situations, they can also give birth to negative causes which may hurt you or the people you love in the process.
Good: Personal Positive Affirmations
Negative wishing is not a factor for ineffective witchcraft. It is a factor for getting unwanted and hurtful effects that can greatly shift your life for the worst. Temporary satisfaction may be possible but only under certain circumstances.
The best thing you can do is to wish the best for yourself. Focus on the betterment of your life. If you seek satisfaction from external areas of your life, you will never be fully satisfied nor become truly happy.
Your thoughts are already potent enough than you think it is. The most important thing to take care of is what you feed your mind with. Even without the tools nor the effort to make something happen, your mind is already stirring spells to attract whatever is in it into your life.
Because, as Murakami had said in one of his books: “There is nothing in this world that never takes a step outside a person’s heart [and mind].”
